McConnell:’The House Didn’t Have A Fair Trial. Why Should The Senate?’

When the Democrats held their impeachment trial in the House of Representatives, it was anything but fair. They shut out the Republicans from viewing. The stifled testimony. They wouldn’t allow witnesses that the Republicans offered. It was a kangaroo court

Now, they are demanding a fair trial in the Senate. But how can they expect this when they held such a biased and illegal proceeding themselves?

That’s precisely how Republican Mitch McConnell sees it and he has clearly laid out his plan. In a rousing speech before the press today, McConnell did not hold back:

“If the Democrats wanted a fair trial in the Senate, why didn’t they have a fair trial in the house? We are simply going to follow their lead. All the same rules for the proceedings will be in place. Only the GOP can question witnesses, no new witnesses, Democrats will be lucky if they can get in the door.

This isn’t unfair. This is what the Democrats themselves arranged. The good people of America like consistency and we intend to give it to them.

We needn’t even have a trial at all. We can simply dismiss it. But we’ll waste some taxpayer money for their sake and put on a show. Don’t be surprised if not a single witness is called because, of course, it’s our turn now. Screw your Nancy!”

Thank goodness we have a Republican controlled Senate that doesn’t buckle to public pressure. They are going to do what’s right and they are going to do it in the method established by the arrivals.
