Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) believes that American veterans are a drain on society. She thinks that offering healthcare benefits to people who served their country for the typical 4-year stint is “giving away free stuff.”
“I don’t get healthcare or a pension from some job I volunteered for ten years ago,” she said, “whey should my taxes pay for some Boomer who hasn’t worn the uniform since Vietnam?”
The rest of her party walked away slowly as they began to understand just how off-the-wall her statement was.
“I don’t think this was a very good battle to choose,” said Rep Joe Barron (D-ID), “I doubt she’ll get much support.”
Outside the House chamber, Republicans gathered and plotted their next move on the issue. “I think it’s safe to say we can use this to avoid doing anything of substance for at least six to eight weeks,” said Speaker Kevin McCarthy, “Which is a win if you’re in charge of this clown show.”
McCarthy hasn’t been very popular with the far-right of his party. They want him to initiate bogus impeachment proceedings, defund a legitimate DOJ investigation and prosecution to save their own asses and hand a bunch of money to billionaires who promise to line their campaign funds.
All-in-all, AOC’s fictional statement probably won’t have all that much effect on policy, so there’s that. God Bless America.
