Dems Pressure Washington Redskins Owner Into Renaming Team ‘Washington Obamas’

Well, that was short-lived. Only just last week the Washington Redskins announced that the name of the fabled team would be changed to “The Washington Football Team” until a new permanent name can be found. And now, in what has to be one of the most blatant acts of political correctness and coercion of a privately owned enterprise, we know what the permanent name is going to be.

Sources have confirmed that the team will be henceforth known as “The Washington Obamas” to honor the former President and First Lady. The name change comes after months of intense political pressure from Democrats, most notably House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.

Specifically, Redskins owner Daniel Snyder was told in no uncertain terms that his franchise would lose any and all tax incentives to keep the team in the city unless he agreed to the name change.

Pelosi spokesperson Joe Barron was blunt about the forced name change:

“Dan Snyder knows full well that without the support of President Obama in the form of tax incentives his team would never have grown into the successful franchise that it is today. President Obama deserves to be honored for that and we are holding Redskin’s owner Dan Snyder to account on that front. After all credit is due where credit is due.”

Losing the tax incentives would have meant the loss of millions of dollars annually and would have likely resulted in the team’s bankruptcy. Snyder spokesperson Cletus Derpfinger explains why the team caved into the demand:

“We were given no choice. It was rename the team or go bankrupt. Since the House has total control over Washington, DC’s budget, and the house is controlled by the Democrats, they can do what they want. I mean, it really sucks but we had no say in the matter.

We were so close to a new permanent name of our choosing, too, one that we were certain would have been widely accepted considering the current political climate: we were going to honor Harriet Tubman by renaming the team to either the ‘Washington Tubmen’ or the ‘Redskinned Tubmen‘, which would have kept at least a part of the old name. Unfortunately, thanks to political meddling it just wasn’t meant to be.”

If this doesn’t outrage you, then you are not a potatriot. Will President Trump reverse the forced name change via executive order? Time will tell.
