It’s the duty of the Speaker of the House of Representatives to swear in new members and assign them their seats for the coming session of Congress. It’s one of our oldest traditions, as laid out in Article IV, Section 143 of the US Constitution.

Nancy Pelosi says that this year, she won’t seat any Republicans unless they “denounce Trump’ in their opening remarks before taking the oath.

According to House rules, she has the right to refuse a member’s seat on moral grounds, but that refusal will eventually come with a vote, in which she would need a 5/7ths majority.

Majority Whip Skip Tetheluda says that won’t be a problem:

“If Speaker Pelosi decides not to swear-in a hundred Republicans. it’s much easier to get the votes needed for a supermajority.”

Of course, none of this is legal, and in no way would it ever happen, but still. Pelosi has some nerve, doesn’t she?

Joe Biden hasn’t said anything about the possible move, other than to reiterate how important it is that we come together. The country wants unity and healing.

It doesn’t want to be split into two kinds of people: inherently decent and fascist trash.

Trump responded to the possible constitutional crisis by exploiting it for his own needs:

“I’m all for doing away with the whole stupid thing. Let the people decide, by shpw of support at my rallies, who they want to rule this country. I think we all know the answer.”

While Trump calling for a dictatorship isn’t the weirdest thing to happen today, it certainly is the least surprising.

Rudy Giuliani says he’ll be petitioning the Supreme Court on the constitutionality of the Constitution Monday morning.

Pelosi, for her part, threw a hand in the face of a reporter from OAN and said, “we’re done caring what you people want.”

She has some nerve.
