All Americans are equal. Our laws, our constitution apply to all citizens, regardless of race, creed, color, national origin, or faith. It’s how the Founders framed our country in order to create something special and unique. But special interest groups always want exceptions made for them. The fanciful Musalamese are one of these groups, constantly making demands that would see them excluded from constitutional laws.
Their latest is a clear violation of the separation of church and state. In America, religious institutions must fend for themselves to fund institutions that promote their faith. It’s established law. Every citizen knows this, yet this tiny, created segment of the population is petitioning to have their faith-based schools funded by the government just as public schools are. It’s outrageous.
One of their members is Jomal Al-Bar Ronal. He is the man leading the charge to have the constitutional amendment amended to suit the desires of his newly conceived people. His justifications are ludicrous.
“The constitution was meant to prevent the Christian church from overwhelming the population, to keep it from indoctrinating all, to prevent the creation of a state religion. We are not Christian. We are not the mammoth majority. We are a small fraction of America that want our faith and our culture to persist. What we ask for would be no more than 0.0001% of the federal education budget. With that, our creator will live on and, He willing, prosper in this new land.”
With our existing public schools crumbling, already underfunded to the detriment of students and teachers alike, it is ridiculous to consider providing dollars to other educational outlets. Add to that the clear constitutional issues and this request must be denied. It’s highly unlikely to be granted but that doesn’t change how maddening the mere suggestion is.
