CMT really did it this time.  First they cancelled Morgan Wallen.  Now it’s Jason Aldean. But going back into their history, they never cancelled Lil Nas X making fun of country with Old Town Road, nor did they pull one of the most controversial songs off of their airwaves.

In 2020, controversial artist who dressed like a cowgirl and did a hybrid version of rap and country put out a song that was so vile, so objectionable, so disgusting, and not once was there an eyebrow raised at CMT. That song was called WAP.

We can’t even say what the meaning of the song is here, that’s how X-rated it is. The song went on about what men would do for her WAP, what she likes done to her WAP, and even what the WAP tastes like. It shouldn’t be on any airwaves, especially ones that consider themselves family friendly.

The video was aired without controversy except for those that wrote into CMT about how perverse it was. CMT’s had zero response except that it was a hit by an artist of color and pulling it would seem “out of touch” and possibly “racist”. No censoring of Cardi B ever occurred.

Head of video selection Joseph Barron said “when that video came out, it obviously caught our attention. It was risqué, of course. But when you’re used to seeing Walmart wives every day in their sweatpants and ill fitting NASCAR shirts, you can’t help but be a bit hot for it.  It was a stroke worthy video for sure. And they guys liked it “

Most people don’t remember the big to do about getting it off CMT’s channel, because most guys’ hands were busy at the time and their wives were trying to get them to pay attention to their own WAP instead of playing with their guns, spending too much on pick up trucks that wouldn’t see a moment of work or, “fishing trips with the boys”. Broke back mountain kind of stuff.

In any case, CMT would never play WAP. And any station that did, the song was heavily censored.  Which means you’d rather hear about playing tough guy with your pew pews, imagining yourselves to be dollar store John Waynes than you would about sex. Weird flex, but ok. God bless America.
