The Founding Fathers of these United States of America created specific clauses that demanded the separation of religion from government. They wisely saw this as necessary to preserve equality and to oppose the domination of any segment of society over another based on religious beliefs. It’s worked well for almost 250 years and shows that the Founder’s insight into how to preserve our republic was sound.
But now many Christian radicals want to change all that. There have been increasing demands to have Bible study in public schools…..and public schools, of course, are publicly funded and are therefore an arm of the government. To do so is blatantly unconstitutional and cannot come to pass.
The democrats, led by newcomers Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, have adamantly opposed such an addition to public education on these constitutional grounds and are leading the way to protect our republic from religious domination. Ilhan Omar speaks:
“There is a wall of separation between church and state here. Benjamin Franklin told us that. I’m an immigrant and I know that. How is that all these fools that call themselves patriots because of their faith do not? By honoring the architects of this nation, I clearly love this country more.”
She’s right. The Somali immigrant is right. Christian evangelicals hate this country.
